Topic: Why devalue time-limited achievements?

So I was wondering why achievements flagged as "unobtainable", specifically ones which are tied to a date in the past, are only worth a teeny tiny fraction of their standard counterparts.

Where's my bonus prestige for being with WoW since the beginning? =P

I would imagine it's in the spirit of fairness so that people aren't at a disadvantage for having started playing later. You may not have felt a game was worth it to buy at launch, or maybe there wasn't warning that the achievement would become unobtainable, or maybe you'd never heard of the game before, or maybe you literally didn't even exist before the game came out. I don't think anybody should be punished for any of these reasons.
