Hi, what is the criterea to be marked as a SPAM game? I feel that some are marked, even though skill/gameplay is required, whereas some others that just let you idle are not marked as SPAM. |

also , wouldn't the normal formula take care of "spam" games by itself if these achievements are super easy to get ? some "games" such as visual novels allow you to skip all text and get all achievements in 1 minute - but you can also play it normally. is that spam? |

There is definitely a big gray-zone. If a game requires skill, but has an insane amount of achievements compared to its scope - it will be marked as spam. F.ex. a game that requires you to throw a ball through a hoop (skill). If you complete it, you get 2000 achievements. Then this would be spam. If a visual novel has 4 achievements, this could be ok - even with idle-skipping, but if it has 100 it is not ok. To me, the easies way to judge would be to do a subjective pass on the actual achievements, after completing it. For each achievement, ask yourself "does this represent a memorable milestone in the game?" ... If the answer is no to the vast majority of the achievements - then it is an achievement-spam game. |

I quite agree on that definition. Unfortunately the only frustrating part is that it wasn't the player but the developer who decided to award 6-10 achievements instead of 1 for skilled based games. I think idle games that award you all achievements and skilled based game that award you multiple achievements are a little bit in a different category. Sometimes you need to play 4+ hours and you got 200 achievements when you were supposed to get ' normally' maybe 30... But that was entirely the dev's decision. Whereas games that let you idle for 1 hour and award you 5000 achievements is a different story (although the idle'ing still needs to be done and therefor also requires "some" effort, it is definitely not the same case for me) But I think we can all agree that these devs have really not only exploited, but also divided, devalued and hurt achievements and its comunity in general. It's sad. |

It's not only devs who screw up achievement hunting, it's also players who deliberately play these games. I don't want to name anyone but there are some players leading the rankings who are private-piling strange games with even stranger achievements =D I wouldn't mind tagging players as spammers... It really feels weird when I spend 240 hours playing Skyrim and get 75 achievements, while someone else plays and uploads nothing but crappy games with tons of cheevos finished in an hour. |
