I have noticed how old consoles games have low scores due to high completion rates. I have also noticed how Steam single player games can have high to really high scores. Sure, Steam has more users but this site registers all the games you own. While on, say, Xbox your game is only public if you have launched it before. If this is the case there would be more balance if your game statistic is only tracked if you have unlocked an achievement. Free giveaways on Steam is quite common so ownerships can be quite high |

The site counts both metrics for how many people own a game, and how many people own that game and have played it. The more people who have played the game (i.e. earned at least one achievement*) the more the bias goes towards using that metric, but for games with few players, it uses everyone to calculate the rarity. * checking time played is not 100% reliable so mgs is not doing that at the moment |

Sorry about the late reply. While counting ownership may help rarer games, I believe it doesn’t help games equally. It might actually hurt rarer games. Game ownership is far from equal. Some games have a massive advantage because there have been giveaways in the past where people pick it up just because they can. I’m one of those guys. Then there’s decent games that have been on huge sales and some games have the advantage of having keys circulate online. There is also games that have been bundled in. As an example imagine two similarly rare games but one of them have been bundled in with a popular game. The game in the bundle gets a lot more value from the added ownership. Then there’s permanent free games. While those that add them to their library usually have the intention to play them the intention to play it much is lower than a bought game. Since it’s free it can also act like a demo where’s its tried out while most demos doesn’t have achievements. Maybe there’s something I don’t know here. I would be interested in additional insight |

I re-read your post. So you’re saying that there’s a threshold that helps games with low numbers until it has a decent amount? My bad. What happens if there a very large amount of ownership and a small amount of players? |
