Since my internet was down today I noticed how the timestamps for the game Himno are mostly all the same. Now I wonder if that could be mistaken for SAM cheating. I also wonder if there are many people who live in a country where you only get internet for a limited time or generally have an extremely low connection. These people would tend to play more single-player games. Is there any way to differentiate if they are cheating or not? | |

No, there isn't any good way to distinguish the two. You could provide proof that you got it legitimately with screenshots of stats, but those could be cheated too... So we're left with a dilemma, leave cheaters unbanned because they could state that they played offline, or we ban everyone with suspicious unlocks including offline players. Both choices have their pros and cons. One is more accepting, but devalues other peoples effort. The other is maintaining competitiveness, but runs the risk of banning innocent players. Maybe it's the norm within Achievement hunting to pick the first choice, while Speedrunning on the other hand, is more like the second choice - provide proof, or it didn't happen. ;) We are very much on the "benefit of the doubt"-side of things, but once in a while there's a bad judgement call, but nothing is written in stone. |
